Lampblack is a UK shop for people building a gym at home. Racks, benches, bars and plates — chosen carefully, held in a UK warehouse, and delivered free.

Why we started

Buying serious training equipment online in the UK is worse than it should be.

Search for a power rack and you'll find a hundred near-identical stores selling the same unbranded steel, with the same stock photographs, the same permanent 60% discount, and delivery estimates measured in weeks because the thing hasn't left a warehouse in Guangdong yet. Specifications are copied wrong. Nobody tells you the assembled height won't clear your garage ceiling. And when something arrives bent, there's an email address that never replies.

We built Lampblack because a rack is not a novelty purchase. It's several hundred pounds of steel you'll load and stand under for the next ten years. It deserves a shop that treats it that way.

How we work

UK stock, always

Everything we sell is already in a UK warehouse when you order it. That's why we can say 4–7 working days and mean it, and why you'll never get a customs bill at the door. If we can't source something from UK stock, we don't list it.

Real specifications

Assembled dimensions, steel gauge, upright spacing, hole spacing, maximum load. On every product page, checked against the manufacturer's own documentation. If a number is missing it's because we haven't been able to verify it, and we'll say so rather than guess.

We'll talk you out of it

Tell us your ceiling height, floor type and what you actually train, and we'll tell you straight whether a piece of kit fits. Sometimes the answer is that it doesn't, or that you should buy something cheaper. We'd rather lose the sale than process the return — and you'll come back.

Free to every UK address, no minimum spend, no surcharge for heavy items. The price on the product page is the price you pay.

What we don't do

Some of this shop is defined by what's missing from it:

No permanent sale. You won't find a fake original price with a red line through it on every product, every day of the year. When something is genuinely reduced, we'll say why.
No countdown timers. Nothing here expires in fourteen minutes.
No invented reviews. We'd rather show none than write our own. As real customers leave them, they'll appear.
No fake stock scarcity. If it says in stock, it's in stock. If it doesn't, it isn't.
No dealer claims we can't back up. We tell you who makes what we sell, and what our relationship to them actually is.

None of that is a marketing position. It's just what's left when you take out the things that annoy people.

Who we are

Lampblack is a trading name of MARC HAYDON LTD, a company registered in England and Wales since 2019. We're small — small enough that the person who answers your email is the person who knows why one rack has better upright spacing than another.

Lampblack is the oldest black pigment there is — pure carbon, collected from soot. It seemed like the right name for a shop that sells black iron.
